Who
needs to sign up as a "new user"?
Signing
up as a new user is necessary in order to: add your
school's stream sampling data, contribute to the database
of teacher resources, or modify the posted sampling
schedule. Other uses of the web site (such as viewing
the data) do not require a user to login.
In
order to login for the first time: Click on the "new
user" link on the navigation bar at the bottom of any
page and fill in the form with your personal information
so that we can contact you and give you permission to
add information to the database. The staff of The Living
SchoolBook will receive your information and assign
you to a sampling location. An e-mail will be sent to
you to notify you when we have completed this process.
The e-mail will contain your PIN number which you will
use to login. From then on, you will have the ability
to add data to your sampling sites.

How do I get data from this
site?
In order to find the site that you operate, click on
the "browse data" link in the navigation bar at the
bottom of any page. You will be able to pick from a
list of major watershed basins in New York State. By
selecting your basin, you will be presented with a list
of streams in your basin. By selecting the name of the
stream your site is located on, you will be again be
presented with a list of all sampling sites on that
stream. On the same page is some data about that site.
You are responsible to update that information for the
site that you operate (more on that later). You will
see a list of dates on which samples were taken at that
site. You must select a date in order to see the data
from that sample. The total number of samples you have
selected so far appears below the list of dates. The
samples can be selected from one or many sample sites
throughout New York State and viewed together. When
you have selected all the samples that you wish to view,
click on the "View Selected Samples" link. The next
page shows a pick list of all the available parameters
that could be viewed in your result set. Check off as
many, or as few, as you wish. Select whether the results
are to be displayed in standard format (for viewing
on the screen) or in Excel format (for copying into
a spreadsheet) and click the "View Selected Items" link
near the bottom of the page. The results of your query
are displayed on the next page.

of the area. To add or update information about the
